Can you be with someone you are not physically attracted to, even though they treat and make you feel good?

II thought if this question yesterday at work when talking about people who are picky. When i was younger i was extremely picky, i had a thing for light skin guys, but as i got older my taste changed and i started to ease up on the demands when it comes to how a dude needs to look or act for me to like him.

I've come across guys who were not the best looking in my eyes, or just were not my type period, but they had a great personality. They were either very respectful, treated me well, made me feel good about myself, or just knew how to speak to me. I know I sound shallow as hell, and I am a little bit, but physical appearance plays a big role in people's relationships; I hope we all know this. If you can answer the question above with a yes I don't know whether to applaud you or slap you. Are you really and truly able to have sex with someone you don't like to look at? can you wake up every morning, and getting startled because of the person you "love"? Maybe that last question was a little harsh, but as long as we all get my point. I will say that I personally don't think i can be with someone just because they treat me good. I need to love all of you, not just one aspect.

Today I walked in on my lil brother in the bathroom. This kid had the shower running and the door locked. I had to put something away so I unlocked the door only to find this kid crushing weed about to smoke up in my bathroom! Now, as you all should be able to tell I toke myself, have been for years now. But I didn’t start when I was 13!

I’ve had suspicion about him smoking weed since Thanksgiving when him and my other younger boy cousins and my sister went “to the store” and came back smelling like something other than outside. I brushed it off then, and I used to see little weed leafs in my bathroom, but it looked like an actual small ass leaf, so I brushed it off then too. But now that I booked him with it, I am shocked. Me being his older sister I feel like I should do something about it. I truthfully do not want him smoking weed. I know why I do it, and I will continue to do it until I find a reason to stop. But him, he doesn’t need to. He’s only thirteen, and is a basketball player. Can you imagine a 6’3 13 year-old on the ball court? Yeah, exactly. So imagine if this kid starts....continues to smoke weed; he’s going to slow down and I can’t have that! This kid needs to make it to the NBA, I know he will...but not only that, my Brother is not smart enough to do this stuff, his brain is still developing. Man I know this makes me super hypocritical, but damn that’s my lil brother doing drugs. I want to say something to him, but I don’t know what. I’m too cool to snitch on him but care too much not to do anything. I need your help yall.

If you live in the GTA you were probably as shocked as I was when you heard that Rick Ross was going to be in Brampton. Not only was I shocked I also didn’t believe it. But dude really came, and of course B and I were in the building. When we arrived the parking lot was full, once we got inside we questioned why. The venue was big and very nice, but it surprisingly wasn’t a full house. They had no smoking in the place, not even lighters allowed inside...but guess who beat the system! We don’t like to follow rules most times, especially dumb ones like no trees inside a Rick Ross show. So we headed to the bathroom with our items and just had to Billup! When Rozay hit the stage we of course sparked, and since security took everyone’s lighter they were all feenin' for the one we had. Blunts and paper planes got lit throughout the whole crowd and Brittney even got paid for her lighter sharing lol. Before his After Party down town Toronto Ross blessed the stage and performed a couple of tracks. I was disappointed in the face that he did mostly features and commercial tracks, but he blew my mind when he did Tears of Joy. These two Indian dudes in front of me were belting out the song word-for-word and I was beyond impressed. At that point in the show I was amped, but Ross dropped me when he did BMF for the second time... At the end of the show we also ended up getting out money back from the tickets we bought! Free gas money for a lighter and a free Rick Ross show. I’d say it was a good night.

This dude said he was stressed one night and went in the lab and created this beat, as he describes it as 'agressive and hard'. A money making way to release stress, I love it. Of course Kanye and Jigga did their job and went to work on this. For their sake I'm hoping this album is as epic as we all think it will be. Keep your eye on the Thrown as you bump H.A.M.

I’m sitting here listening to Lil Wayne and Birdman’s new single, Fire Flame with a screw face. I’m going to get a lot of hate for this comment, but I am back on my eff Weezy shit. Now, there’s no beef, I have no issues with Weezy except for the fact that he isn’t saying shit on his new records. When he dropped 6’7’, I tried to take it in, the beat was distracting during the verses, and yet again he wasn’t saying shit. Before Weezy went in the Bin I was heavy on him, but that is only because of No Ceilings. Before No ceilings came out I wasn’t listening to Weezy. He dropped The Carter 3, and it wasn’t that great, and then the Young Money movement came around, and I locked that dude off my iPod with his then new material. When No Ceilings came out I couldn’t believe my ears. Lil Wayne murdered everybody’s beat on that mix tape. I can no longer listen to Waka Flocka’s version of ‘Oh Let’s Do it’, the original ‘Ice Cream Paint Job’, or even Jigga’s ‘Run This Town’...not to mention Nicki Minaj’s ‘Banned From TV’. So now, when I sit here and listen to this Tom Foolery of singles that he is leaking from his post prison album I can’t help but cut it off quick. It’s like he is trying to make his voice sound the way he did prior to his lock down, but at the same time the content is not there. It makes me wonder if weezy really needs the weed to rap better.

I scared off this dude. Lol it’s kind of funny now that I think about it...but it really is quite sad. Met this dude couple summers ago, never really got to know each other until early last year. When I first met him thought he as rude and just not cute at all...but clearly he grew on me the more we spoke. From occasional ‘wuddup’ to daily, long, conversations. Anyway we went a long time before we actually hung out, so one night out of nowhere he picked me up and we hit the streets. Checked out tattoo shops, hit the mall then went to his place. He showed me his outrageous collection of music and then we watched a movie. We got close as the movie went on, and then he tried to go in for the kill. I admit I initiated it with a kiss, but he tried to get more. I stopped it and we continued the movie. After the movie we ran some Call of Duty. After that he went in for the kill again...but this is where shit gets sticky. Though things went a little bit farther, I had to stop it yet again...the reason I stopped it was clearly because it was way too soon, and plus I had feelings for the dude...and I made the mistake of telling him that. Yes, the Pimp done did it; done fucked everything up. One thing you never, ever, ever, ever do is tell a nigga you like him. Truth be told, that shit was by accident, it slipped out, sort of like word vomit. Anyway that shit scared dude away. This happed just before the New Year, I had a get together for NYE which he was invited to, and accepted because he had nothing to do. And he didn’t come. I wasn’t surprised, and less than half way through the night I forgot due to the Gin, Henny and Koosh. I tried to ask my friends if they had any advice at all. But I know myself that clearly this is a dude not to put much effort into. Lol I messed it up, and I don’t think there is any coming back from that.

while on my daily world star surf I came across this video of a University student rapping for Lupe Fiasco in class.Please check it out, this guy is talented beyond belief.

I noticed that this wasn't happening in any normal class, but a Hip Hop class. I'm shocked to find out that such classes exist. I attend York University, and there are no such classes in my school. We do on the other hand have a Jamaican language class, which is great because it is recognizing Patwa, the native tongue of Jamaica, as its own language. We do have music classes as well, that focus on Black music, but an entire class dedicated to Hip Hop? no. If you know me, you would know that I am a Hip Hop head. I would prefer to listen to Wu Tang over Jodeci any day. I bring this up because I think it would be amazing to have a class about Hip Hop in my school. Hip Hop is long dead, and people these days are confusing this foolish 'pop' music for Hip Hop; they need to learn about REAL Hip Hop, and where it came from, and who the great contributers are. I think I need to look into this; make this class official at York U.

College and Uni students, would you take a class that was dedicated to learning about Hip Hop?

I know that we are kind of late with this post, but who cares. I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas, I hope everyone was as blessed as I was. I started my Christmas with Breakfast with my grandpa, little cousin from Trinidad, parents, and siblings. Just before we ate, we opened our gifts. After a filling breakfast we got ready and hit my Grandmothers house for dinner #1 and more gifts. After that we hit Brittney's house for dinner #2. The Jones clan is huge, so the house was full of laughs, food, drinks, and family. Our cousin Shanice and myself got a few shots of everyone eating, drinking, talking, opening presents.

Hope everyone is safe, and enjoyed their X-Mas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or what ever you celebrated. Now that it's over, what do you plan on doing to bring in the New Year?

I am officially done school…well until January 10^th 2011. I just completed my second and last exam for the fall term. I’m still here at school, just waiting til 12:00pm to come so I can participate in this research thing or my Psychology class. I am so happy to be finished school for the remainder of the year. Work and school have been raping me anally. Anytime I speak about school, I have to express how much a dislike it…my school to be exact. I’m currently deciding which school I should transfer to. The only issue is, I don’t know if I should stay in Canada or transfer abroad? I really think I need to go somewhere warm. I cant take another Winter. No matter what I always get sick in the winter. I am fighting what I would say has now developed into a cold, thanks to my little sister and Brittney. I cant breathe the same air as someone who is sick, I will catch that cold easily! Anyway I just had to share my joy, with me being finished school until January and all. Have a great and productive day people!

Netty's Birthday Weekend

This past weekend was my birthday weekend. My Birthday was on Friday the 10^th, so you know we had to party all weekend long. Friday Brittney and I started our day shopping for our dresses...yes, ALWAYS end up copping our outfits for an event the day of; last minute everything. After that we got our hair did, I copped my dress, and then we rushed home to get ready. Friday night we hit up The 400 Club. It was pretty good for the short time we were there. Goose was on deck, Paper Planes were on deck, so I was pretty smashed smh. Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of my dress, but just know it was hot lol. This is the only picture I have, me and my Home girl Michelle. As you can tell, my eyes were freaking low, so I just kept em closed.

Saturday I woke up close to 2pm and had to clean vomit off of the car. So I guess we can all say it ended pretty well. In the night we hit up Ace of Spades at On The Rox. We got there a lil early, but the place got full quick. It was a good night I`d say. Ruff Riders were in the Building for this event as well as The 400 Club, and It seemed like the Nise dudes had the stage on lock. It was a good night, till I ran into the lady who hired me at my current job...yeah. She didn’t seem to mind, but I found it weird.

All in all I had a great birthday weekend. Another one to add to the books, and a few more stories to tell the Grandkids. Shout out to my P.I.C for helping me out with this crazy weekend. We haven’t partied like that in a minute :)

On December 10^th I will be 20 years old. Lol it’s weird to say that. It’s not weird because I’m growing up, no longer a teenager, but it’s weird because I feel so much older. Mentally and physically, and I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. I have to admit I am excited. I have always been a birthday celebrating type of person, a lot of people don’t take birthdays seriously; but I take it for what it really is. To be, at least, a birthday is the marking of the day you were born, the day you as an individual were blessed with life. When I was born, my mom was only 16, and clearly she made a big decision, and the right one, and kept me. Words really can’t express how thankful I am to be breathing. When I see people who take life too seriously I laugh. With one life to live, why live it by the book? Why not do something to better yourself, as well as having fun. There really is no time to worry about little things, hold terrible grudges, and live with regrets.

I've lived two decades of life that I wouldn't say was hard, but wasn’t anywhere close to being easy either. Life filled with crazy, unbelievable stories to tell my children and grandchildren...This Friday is going to be another story to tell them. I plan to make the best of my birthday...I haven’t been out to a good club/party in a minute. I’m hoping...actually I know that the party that I will be at is going to be bananas. Tomorrow Britt and I are going dress hunting. We do everything last minute...usually the day of smh. Sometimes pressure is what helps you get shit done! I hope I find something Bangin’. I have no idea of what I want to wear...at first I was thinking of something short, tight and w/ sequins...something along the lines of this.

So I'm planning on going to New York for thanksgiving and right now it seems impossible. Smh. At first I was thinking of flying over, if and only if I could find a reasonable flight. And of course I didn't. I refuse to pay upwards to $300 to fly for 45 minutes. I refuse. So I of course Greyhound it is. That's how I usually get there.

So today, I sit down to purchase the ticket online for Nadine and I. I expect problems, cause there always is every time I'm purchasing it online. And here we go with the damn issues. Called them greyhound people about 6 times today to figure out what the issue maybe and no one can tell me. I was at it for an hour before I took a food break. Then 2 hours later, tried again. Same shit. Called them back for the 7th time to finally find out the site is down, and I should try tomorrow.

Are you serious? This issue was so time consuming today. SMH. No one couldn't tell me that the first time I called? SHeesh!

But I am super excited to be going to New York for thanksgiving. Can't wait to see the family. Can't wait for ham, candied yams and macaroni pie :-)

Should be a great trip. Better get this ticket booked though by tomorrow or it just may have to be a $300 flight for me.

I will admit that's its been a long time since I've purchased a book. And the last book I bought was for school purposes only. So only JayZ will make me run to my local Chapters and cop this the day it came out (Nov. 16).

And its a very good buy. I haven't been able to put it down. I think I will finish before the weekend is over.

So far its about his love for hip hop, growing up in Marcy, getting into the drug game and making his first album. I'm a huge Jay Z fan and I thought I knew a lot about him, but these stories are so raw, candid and his emotional opinions about street life. Truly insightful.

But before I give away anything, go cop it. Good buy. Great read. And if you love Hip Hop like I love Hip Hop, its a good insight about the history and how it started. Also how it was to grow up during the time it was just starting to pop.

The way he talks about people like Big Daddy Kane and Rakim makes me want to go cop all of their albums and experience it for myself. I just might do that.

But anywho... I'm going to get to my reading. *throws the diamond in the sky*

Back in September this group of artists opened their second installment of the interim Thrift Boutique. Before them, I've heard about second hand shopping, but wasn't too interested. Then I had a friend from work put me on to what they can really offer. Which is unique, sometimes no name, timeless items of clothing you can't really find anywhere else. I like to be exclusive.

But what this group does is bring the thrift shopping experience directly to you. They find the items, clean them up and display them in boutique style once every six months or so. Their next Thrift Boutique will be in Montreal is what I'm told.

Review: For Colored Girls

Last weekend my cousin and I crammed into the small theater on the first floor of Famous Players to watch 'For Colored Girls'. I couldn't understand why on the opening night of this film did they have in the small theater. Or why we had to line up outside. Once in the theater, I must have seen about 10 women I know or my mother knows. Once the movie started, all could was soda cans cracking open and laughter. And ya'll know movie theaters don't sell pop cans. lol.

But on to what to what I thought about the movie.

I went to see 'For Colored Girls' this past weekend with many pre conceived notions. I liked the idea of the film but I wasn't feeling the end result. I did not find one positive black female or positive black male image in this movie. None! It was borderline depressing. Instead of speaking English in some parts and speaking about their feelings, they resorted to poetry. Not just normal spoken word, but one that had me squinting trying to go along with the storyline. I understand the stage play was based on poems and what not, but really? Some points I thought Whoppi Goldberg was speaking in tongues.

I thought by Tyler Perry putting all these black women together it would be something, I don't know, more positive. I mean yes, everyone black or white human being goes through traumatic experiences. And they are dark and ugly. Like your husband giving you an STD, or domestic violence. But I was hoping, for once, with an all star cast like this, I would see these women playing the roles white women own in this movie making business. Which are the mother of 3 with a successful career and an over worked husband. Or the successful magazine executive that is mean to her assistant. Or the wife whose husband is an undercover assassin and so is she.

Will I ever see Jada Pinkett in a movie like Mr and Mrs Smith. Or see Nia Long play a role like Devil Wears Prada? That's what I was hoping for with this film. With a title like 'For Colored Girls' I thought it would way more impactful than that. Something I as a young black woman could learn from. And draw inspiration from. All I learned was don't trust black men. They will beat you and yo kids, rape you and give you an STD. (Not to give too much of the film away). That's harsh right?

One thing I did like about the movie was that it showed that all of us are connected. Black women, young and old always seem to be enemies. And in the movie, in the beginning it was like that. Until they realized we are the same. We cry, we fight, we struggle and try to survive all the same. Instead of all the ugliness, Tyler Perry could have accentuated that point a little more. *sigh*

I will say one good thing, Kimberly Elise was amazing in this movie. This woman can put it down with the ugly cry.

But yes.. another over hyped Tyler Perry movie. Trust me I will never be bamboozled again by this man. Bootlegs from now on. And am I the only one that found it a bit strange that weeks before his new movie debuted he went on Oprah to confess about being molested? Perfect timing much? Get sympathy, draw a bigger crowd? I can't believe I was sucked in.

If you haven't seen it yet, I suggest you wait for the bootleg. Or go on a Tuesday (half price).

I am excited to say the H&M/Lanvin Collection has been released online. The luxourious line will hit stores November 20th. I love many pieces of the collection. The mens items are really nice too. They have a lot of tuxedo blazers and tailored pants.

But the womens line has me in a tizzy. I may not a be a girly girl, but I love me some dresses. And my mama used to have me watching Fashion Television, so I know about Lanvin. His style is amazing.

The other day Brittney and I were having a serious conversation about the opposite sex. As we all know winter is well on its way, and winter is cuffing season. It’s as if a dude feels that just because he knows my name, and we are cool, he has the right to spit reckless, shameful game, and think it means mean I am the one to get at when you trying to get your dick wet. Since we are friends, when you ask me to chill I expect to only chill. Guys have brought a new meaning to that word – chill. When a guy asks to chill it usually means come by, talk for a bit, and then I try to fuck. Can’t you at least try to be slick with it? Come with some dope game to actually make a girl want to get with you? You can’t expect me to take you serious when my game is better than yours. As soon as I see the BBM saying: “what you sayin? Let’s chill” I know what game you are trying to kick, which usually only leads to rejection. Chilling doesn’t require me staying over your crib – that’s a position to be taken on by a chick playing the role as your girl...not homegirl. Chilling doesn’t require you trying to fuck.
